2026 Sports in Kansas 2A Boys🏀 Player of the Year: Boston Ekart, Sterling
Boston Ekart led Sterling to a dominant season and back-to-back state championships, finishing as one of the top players in Kansas regardless of class.
The 6’6 senior averaged 22.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game, anchoring a team that controlled games on both ends all season.
“We were dominant all season and it came from the way our team played,” Ekart said. “We played great team ball, were unselfish and our defense was strong all year.”
Ekart finished his career as Sterling’s all-time leading scorer with 1,644 points while adding nearly 600 rebounds, cementing himself as one of the most accomplished players in program history.
He was also a Sports in Kansas Top 5 All-Classes selection, leading a Sterling team that proved it could compete with anyone in the state. Sterling also captured a football state title in the fall, highlighting one of the most successful runs for a school across multiple sports.
“This kid probably could’ve been at our event last year as the 2A POY. He’s a dude,” said Chet Kuplen of Sports in Kansas. “When he told me he’s 6-6, I didn’t believe him, I said you’ve got to be 6-7/6-8 in shoes. He towers over people. Sterling would’ve given a lot of teams a game in any class, you better believe it.”
Led by back-to-back Sports in Kansas 2A Coach of the Year Derek Schneider, Sterling established itself as one of the most complete teams in Kansas.
Committed to Northwestern College, Ekart leaves behind a championship legacy and one of the most dominant stretches in 2A.
