Cross country defined: “To be successful... the truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it.”
Our @TrackKearney @KHSGirlsTF athletes do a great job of getting an appropriate amount of heavy reps in during offseason and in season. Some of our most diligent lifters!
High quality, functional sports movements are undoubtedly the best way to reach your ceiling when training for any sport. However, raw speed power training is how we elevate that ceiling. We can get higher tissue loads and neural stimulation in that raw speed environment.
To get better, you have to struggle.
The way your body and mind learn, adapt, and grow is to be slightly embarrassed. That frustration is the signal that our brain/body needs to adjust.
If you want to learn and adapt, embrace the struggle.
Team culture does not form during meetings or scheduled activity.
It forms during the in between moments. The cool down conversations, the shared anxiety while awaiting a race, the adventures once the performance is complete and you have got hours to kill in a different city.
The secret is there is no secret:
Move your body regularly.
Eat whole foods, not too much.
Build community and belonging.
Pursue meaningful endeavors.
Optimize for control over your time and energy, not money or things.
Be patient, play the long game.
Sleep when you are tired.
Got to do the Tunnel Walk with a crew of former Husker letterwinners before the Purdue game today—fun to see a bunch of people I hadn’t seen in awhile. Forever proud to have had the chance to be a part of @HuskerTFXC !! 🔴⚪️🌽
Have a purpose that's greater than yourself.
A self-transcending purpose allows us to persist a bit longer, perform a bit better. In physical pursuits, our brain loosens the reigns allowing us to dig a bit deeper.
Kids need unsupervised play—full stop.
If we want rugged and flexible kids who can navigate uncertainty then we need to give kids opportunities to be rugged and flexible and navigate uncertainty.
What makes endurance athletes able to handle some of the toughest challenges?
They are forced to work through difficult moments, not by grinding through, but by accepting.
