During today's officials opening of the conference President William Ruto, in a virtual address, reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to sustainable ocean governance and called for stronger international cooperation to address pressing marine challenges.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who officially opened the conference on behalf of the President, emphasized that safeguarding the oceans is a shared responsibility requires collective action.

The newly appointed Principal Secretary for the State Department for East African Community (EAC), ASALs and Regional Development, Dr.Caroline W. Karugu,PhD, today held an introductory meeting with Managing Directors of the Regional Development Authorities (RDAs) to familiarize herself with their mandates, programmes, strategic opportunities and challenges.

During the meeting, CDA Ag. M.D, Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera, presented CDA's key projects and interventions across the Coast region.

The Principal Secretary reaffirmed her commitment and support in strengthening RDAs to deliver their mandate.

CDA Ag. Md, Dr. Mwanasiti Bendera, today received a courtesy call from Mwanasha Gaserego the founder of #Tuwajali Wajane Kwale Initiative (CBO), established in 2020 to address the social and economic challenges facing widows in Kwale County.

Dr. Bendera reaffirmed CDA's commitment to empowering vulnerable groups in the meeting, noting that the Authority's mandate places special emphasis on improving the welfare of women, youth,people living with disabilities and children through inclusive development initiatives that leave no one behind.

"As we mark International Widows' Day on June 23, we recognize the resilience of widows and reaffirm our commitment to supporting programs that promote dignity, inclusion and economic empowerment for women in our communities," said Dr. Bendera.

In Kwale County, over 800 participants are expected at Mivumoni Market Grounds, Ramisi Ward, Msambweni Sub-County,for theInternational Widows' Day celebrations.
The event will bring together government agencies, financial institutions, religious leaders and other stakeholders to showcase services and opportunities for the community.
