So something I have talked about a lot in the last few days is how stigma, ablism, diabetes, racism, and wh*te suprem*cy are inextricably woven together. I’d like to expand on that, because these problems hurt those who are the least represented the most. 🧵
@cpearson76 I had one in college. My parents home was close but I lived on campus to help make diabetes management easier. I had a trustworthy roommate and found it super helpful.
Nothing like pounding 5+ Capri suns because they changed the recipe to add monk fruit
and reduce calories🙃 is there somewhere diet culture & sugar/fat phobia not reach? Can’t a fake juice drink just be a fake juice drink?
If you’ve ever wondered why Type 1 diabetics can’t engage in civil disobedience, it’s because if we’re placed in jail, we are stripped of our ability to keep ourselves alive and many, like this man, don’t survive. https://t.co/Gdvi82RfmL
Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.
This particular scenario with ticketmaster feels a lot like insulin too.
A giant megacorp controls the supply and demand of something and makes me jump thru hopes to get it, and marks it up just becase they can.
The difference is I won't die without concert tickets, sure.
Not looking for pity just w/ ppl to know that when ppl are upset, crying, angry, feeling things, etc about "trivial" things, it may also be expression of things they don't have the luxury to safely feel.
As a disabled person I can't afford to get in my feels a lot of the time.
My insulin pump shattered? No time to panic & cry. I have to figure out how to SURVIVE without insulin until i can get a new pump, needles, pens.
There are so many examples like this.
Disappoints of "trivial" things can be the straw that breaks someone.
I hope Taylor Swift considers adding some mid sized cities to the tour. A stop in STL, Memphis, New Orleans, Boise, Jacksonville, San Diego, Miami, and Cleveland could go a long way at freeing up big cities and would STILL sell out.
