@_chrishaynes @annalisaboulder #engl3246 I guess I feel like I have trouble defining myself and “close reading “ myself so to speak. When u start looking at other things in pop culture it becomes stressful because ur forced to reflect more on “who am I” within society. And sometimes ur not ready for that.
@_chrishaynes#engl3246 it fights it by showing us diverse people. Different looks different cultures different genders and not just making them relatable or normal... but making them super. We all strive to be super. I strive to be kamal even tho “I’m not like her” I am.
@_chrishaynes Political activism is having showing doing actions for the greater good, the desire of making improvements to society. Holdin women..holdin anyone to a particular standard through means of media/life in general will only hold down potential for society, this fights that #engl3246
#engl3246 for me this pg is a #deet on the overall normalization of various culture in America. In highschool I was always told were a melting pot” but pop culture really didn’t show me that.we shouldn’t have to learn in school we’re a melting pot we should jus know from living.
@ChloeFillinger @_chrishaynes I totally agree with this! I feel like I wish it was more approachable and more put out there in mainstream pop culture. I don’t think I would of encountered this read if it wasn’t for this class and I do read graphic novels so I question why? #engl3246
@_chrishaynes@cu_maryfleming @bedtimetoaster Idk if this applies but I’ve noticed from what I’ve seen in “manga” in relation to American superhero’s... Japanese characters get stronger and stronger and size up while American superhero’s don’t. I don’t know much about comics but I think that’s interesting #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#claim By reminding us that the Muslim faith shares the truly "superhero" values of the preservation of life and the pledge to do no harm to others Kamala shows readers that her identity, while unique, is one that all Americans can relate to. #engl3246
@annalisaboulder I still feel overwhelmed by pop culture and despite all the great we have focused on I still don’t like I can live up to stuff in pop culture. It’s fun to dissect it but for me it was also draining. #engl3246
@_chrishaynes Seriously think I’ve worn this outfit/ have it. Love how relatable this all is. And realistic for not being a “realistic” piece #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#synth#deet#engl3246 this book combats “what is a hero” and even tho we have seen woman in the past be super hero’s they are all sexy women, kamal is just your average girl who throws on a T-shirt and yes she can save the day and not be a sex kitten. That’s potlitical activism
@_chrishaynes#deet#engl3246 our gal Kamala is blatantly “progressive” which that alone- seeing a character like her.. beyond words and in full color is political activism. It’s taking charge of what we see , what we want to see and what we need to see in society.
@kapl1914 Just goes to show it’s not what you look like on the outside and it’s all about who we are on the inside ! Imporant for us all to love by (: #engl3246
@_chrishaynes#deet just by saying “we are all” creates a community and is directly opening it up to everyone. It also leads you to believe your apart of it even when u don’t realize which makes you intreatwd in how this can be. It can influence u to become apart of it (pop culture) #engl3246
3. Courage... Besides it being a Marvel story... our character has a lightning bolt on her t-shirt, tightly shut jaw and a very tight fist. Clearly, this chick is ready for battle. #engl3246
2. Current... The way she is dressed (trendy scarf, rings, graphic tee..) To me, represents the story will take place today in 2017 (or give or take a few years) Also the typography used looks current. #engl3246
1.Cute ... she is represented as stylish, her physical features are “pretty”, she appears to have lip gloss on, the color themes of the front cover is “feminine “ #engl3246
Since this is a graphic piece of lit I’d like to acknowledge my first impressions of just the cover image/ what to expect...1. cute 2.current 3. Courage #engl3246
@ChloeFillinger @_chrishaynes To play devils advocate on the piece being in b&w - black and white film is all about contrast. Making blacks and whites pop out more the darker and lighter they are against one another. Making the color very noticeable #engl3246
