Before any Vote-by-Mail ballots can be counted, they must go through an extensive process of verification and extraction. Ballot envelopes are signature verified, up to three separate times, to the voter's signature on file.

@amyforsandiego That notice is so you can cure your ballot for multiple mistakes. It gives the voter a second chance to have the votes on their ballot included in the election. It could be because their spouse signed the voter’s name on the outside of the envelope.

@BrandonRichards Not if you vote at the polls using a ballot handed to you there. Your electronic signature on the computer screen to get one is not compared to your voter registration form signature. Plus, CA doesn’t have a positive purge which is why voters who died or moved still get ballots.

@RoKhanna Real simple. 1. Change back to mail-in ballots for only absentee purposes requiring most people to vote at the polls. 2. Change the law to require all mail-in ballots must be received by Election Day with an actual postmark not handwritten.

The problem in California is they don’t have a positive purge in which a notice is sent out if you haven’t voted in multiple elections, and if you don’t send it back you’re removed from the rolls. That’s how it should work. But they do the opposite.
