A D.C. woman was arrested in the apartment building where she pays a monthly rent to live in. She told 7News the Channel Square Apartments called police on her after she tried to teach tenants about their rights.

Tenants told 7News they feel this is retaliation for their reports and complaints about conditions inside.

The shaving of women's heads at the Liberation of Europe took place between 1944-1945. In France alone, around 20,000 women were publicly shorn during the "purge," before legal institutions were restored. These acts usually took place in front of crowds and were accompanied by insults, beatings, forced parades.. These women were accused of what was called "horizontal collaboration", a term used to describe intimate relationships with German soldiers. This, however, collapses into very different realities. It included consensual relationships, transactional exchanges for food or protection, relationships formed under severe economic pressure and sexual violence. In many cases, so-called consent was deeply constrained by hunger, fear and power imbalance. The punishment was gendered, women were targeted through their bodies and hair was a central marker of
femininity. Shaving it stripped women of gender identity and transformed their bodies into public symbols of disgrace. What was being punished was not political collaboration, but the female body perceived as having betrayed the nation through sexuality. The shaving itself constituted a form of sexual violence. It often included being undressed, touched and exposed to a crowd. Most of these punishments were carried out without trials. Many women were never allowed to defend themselves and were punished on the basis of rumor or vengeance. The targets were often single mothers or working-class women, who lacked protection. Public shaving also served a broader social function. It allowed communities to channel anger after years of occupation, while diverting attention from male collaboration. It helped reassert a patriarchal moral order and symbolically purify the nation by punishing vulnerable bodies. Today, there is scholarly consensus that the shaving of women was a violation of human dignity. It was a punishment that targeted women almost exclusively, ignoring the realities of survival under occupation. As historian Fabrice Virgili has argued, the shaving did not truly punish collaboration; it punished the transgression of female sexual norms in a moment when society sought to restore control.

Haitian immigrant last seen in ICE custody—found dead on the street 3 days later.

Agents drove her 1 hour away from home for processing—then released without notifying her family.

Her body was found near a bus stop.

Police say she had "significant mental health episode" that landed her in county jail.

But ICE picked her up after judge dismissed all charges and drove her 1 hour away to Pittsburgh.

"Told her brother charges were dismissed on Thursday. She doesn't come out on Friday. He gets a call on Monday that she's dead," lawyer explained.

"It seems perfectly reasonable if you're going to take someone all the way up here and that far out of their element—you could just as easily have driven them back."

That counselor just performed a masterclass in ethical triage. And the gap between what they told her and what they told him is the whole story.

To her: honesty. "We can't do couples therapy here because this isn't a couple problem—it's an abuse problem. Here are resources to leave safely. Here's individual support. We see you."

To him: silence with a smile. "Sorry, no availability." No confrontation. No warning. No chance to escalate. Just a closed door and a dial tone.

They protected her by telling the truth. They protected her further by lying to him.

That's not cowardice. That's strategy. Abusers don't get the same information as victims. They don't get the same consideration. They don't get a heads-up that their partner is being handed an exit plan.

Couples therapy with an abuser is dangerous. It teaches them therapy language to use as weapons. It creates a false sense of shared responsibility. It gives the illusion that both parties are equally broken when one is actively causing harm.

The counselors saw it. Acted on it. Gave her a way out while giving him nothing.

That's not just ethics. That's intervention disguised as scheduling.
