What if AI gives you an answer that sounds completely convincing, but is entirely made up?

In 2023, lawyers submitted court cases invented by ChatGPT. The citations looked real, the arguments sounded convincing, but some of those cases never existed.

This is called AI hallucination, and it's one of the most fascinating challenges in artificial intelligence.

In the first episode of AI Stories, we explore why AI sometimes makes up information, why language models can sound so confident even when theyre wrong, and why AI doesnt always say I dont know.
