openai has a product that is an input box where you could type literally anything into and have a magical experience
when you have something this compelling your goal reduces into a simple thing - how do you get every single person in the world to try it
and you have to do it before anyone else does
a lot of smart people will show up and try to convince you with smart sounding explanations why you should be doing otherwise
but they're all wrong - imagine if google stuck to a $20/mo subscription plan early on
would have been a good business for a bit but not a legendary one
so it's worth giving up literally everything to avoid paywalling in service of this goal
openai gave up a big chunk of enterprise to microsoft just so they could have the capital to keep giving more people this experience
and it's totally worth it because for 99% of the population chatgpt is AI and there is nothing else
and at this point it's basically impossible for anyone to challenge that
Reviewing PRs and it's amazing how quickly things are moving from "wow, look at this junk, you can tell they used AI to write this" to "wow, look at this junk, you can tell they wrote this by hand"
Remember when they would tell you in high school that the real world wasn't like high school?
Yet I'm sitting in a Zoom call with 30-year-old+ "professionals" raising their hands to talk next
