@IronicnotSavage Nothing stopped them with wind waker, awakening and botw. But now we are deciding to draw the line at something like puppets because it's niche and stupid and for dumb babies? Since when has this become an actual concern?

@spikermonster It shouldn't be "period" accurate, it would be enough for it to imply Link being presented as a doll made from modern materials, using modern methods, while actually pretending to represent something out of a fairytale.

@spikermonster If you did that, you might've been able to recognize that the seams you've decided to focus on might actually be read as an intentional element of artifice, same as synthetic looking fabric and an unnatural, poisonous-green color of it.

@gummyG3NDER @spikermonster You might've skipped a few things because those dolls wore a lot of untextured synthetics with some tastefully detailed exceptions, and their hair were glossy and monolith. Link's costumes look nothing like theirs. Only his face is fairly similar to that of Dartagnan.

@dreamredits What do you mean hidden, what do you mean detail, it's, like, the entire personality of this design, it's heavy-handed and in your face, impossible to ignore, it's "hey, look, this guy is a forest guy".

@ralsrags I agree that characters shouldn't be pleasant to look at (my only gripe in this regard is with Link's and kokiri costumes, but that's a whole different can of worms), definitely with you on Zelda, but calling the remake faithful to the og is like calling lion king movie faithful

@BazBombadil The colors on the left however have that synthetic fabric look that i'd expect from a puppet costume and it is much easier to see as an artistic interpretation.

@BazBombadil I don't feel that the one on the right is in any way more subversive than the one on the left. The realism here is the enemy of artifice. It looks too busy and distracted from any sort of a concrete idea. It goes for everything and for nothing at once. A cw superhero costume.
