In 1969 and 1970, Bob Woodward served as a liaison between the Pentagon and the National Security Council (NSC), which worked out of the White House basement. Yes, this means Bob Woodward worked INSIDE the Richard Nixon White House in 1969 and 1970.

At very the same time, Alexander Haig was the top military aide at the NSC. As the top military aide at the NSC Haig, similar to Woodward, served as a liaison between the NSC and the Pentagon.

Woodward's direct supervisor at the Pentagon was none other than Thomas Moorer, the (eventual) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest-ranking person in the armed forces.

Moorer is best remembered for a scandal known today as the Moorer-Radford affair. There's a lot of misinformation out there about the Moorer-Radford affair, but when you boil it down, it was just another one of Haig's NSC Plumbers operations.

Moorer would receive stolen NSC documents from underlings and pass them on to Haig. Haig was the end user of the stolen documents. He was spying on NSC staffers, just as he did with his famous FBI wiretaps. Moorer-Radford was a Haig operation, not a Moorer operation.

So, what does this tell us about Woodward? It tells us he worked in 1969 and 1970 with Moorer and Haig, dead-center within the very same Plumbers apparatus he pretended to investigate during Watergate. The Watergate burglars were a part of that very same operation -- Haig's operation.

When Haig's Burglars were arrested at the Watergate, investigators quickly drew links between Haig, the Burglars, and the JFK assassination.

The more Nixon pushed back on impeachment, the closer investigators got to the truth about Haig and the JFK assassination. Therefore, Haig ousted Nixon to save himself.

As for Woodward, he used the Washington Post to divert our attention away from Haig and towards Nixon's reelection operation (CREEP).

The burglars did not work for CREEP. They worked for Haig. In the Watergate break-in, the Burglars were hoping to discover what the Democrats knew about secret NSC plans to convert Chile to fascism, a plan which came to fruition on September 11, 1973.

One of the reasons we know the Burglars were interested in Chile is because some or all of the same burglars hit the Chilen Embassy in Washington DC a couple weeks before they hit the Watergate. Why would CREEP burglarize the Chilean Embassy? They wouldn't. That's silly.

Addiction, trauma, compulsive behavior, some forms of depression, these often look less like isolated symptoms and more like stable attractor states. The brain keeps falling back into the same emotional, behavioral, and predictive loops because the whole system has organized itself around them.

Ibogaine appears capable, in some people, of violently loosening that organization.

The experience can combine withdrawal suppression, altered autobiographical processing, intense symbolic material, changes in reward circuitry, and a prolonged period where the old behavioral gravity feels weaker. The person can come out feeling as though the system that was pulling them back into the same loop has lost authority.

That is why the effect can seem almost impossible compared with ordinary psychiatry.

Most psychiatric drugs tune the state.

Ibogaine may sometimes knock the system into a different basin altogether.

If that survives rigorous trials, the historical significance could be enormous because it would imply that some entrenched disorders are not necessarily permanent traits requiring lifelong management. They may be dynamical states capable of abrupt reorganization.

That would change how psychiatry thinks about treatment.

And there is an even deeper implication.

A drug like ibogaine suggests that identity itself may be more plastic than people assume. The “self” that feels trapped in addiction or trauma can seem fixed because the brain keeps reconstructing the same model of reality, the same emotional salience, the same craving architecture, the same memories with the same weight.

Perturb the architecture hard enough, and the person may temporarily get access to a different configuration.

That is why reports can sound almost religious.

People describe seeing their life whole.

Seeing causes rather than fragments.

Feeling the compulsion lose its grip.

Recognizing patterns that had been invisible from inside the pattern.

The phenomenology is exactly what would be expected if the brain had been pushed far enough out of its normal attractor that previously inaccessible relationships suddenly became visible.

The ordinary mind may be heavily constrained by the state it is currently occupying.

Ibogaine may temporarily relax those constraints so dramatically that the person sees the structure of their own life from outside the usual narrative.

That is why the experience can feel like revelation.

Ibogaine may eventually be remembered less as a psychedelic and more as the molecule that showed psychiatry that some pathological mental states can be broken open rather than merely managed.
