Dr. Omar Ammar, a gyno-oncologist, was detained March 3, 2024, while passing through tanks in his hometown. He remains in custody without charges or trial and has not had legal representation at any of his hearings.
During a conversation with him, Dr. Ammar mentioned that he was held in a cell with 10 people – each had a mattress but there were only 6 beds, meaning 4 people would sleep on thin mattresses on the floor.
Dr. Omar Ammar is among dozens of healthcare workers from #Gaza who are being unlawfully detained by Israel and subjected to inhumane conditions and ongoing medical neglect.
It is our responsibility to demand their immediate release.

Remember when Israel bombed the first school that people are using as a shelter in Gaza and the world wouldn't believe it and Israel justified it with military rationale. Israel has destroyed all schools in Gaza.
Now Israel bombs vicinity of schools that people are using as a shelter in Lebanon and doesn't even need to pretend there's a military rationale.
This is another war crime, and the International Criminal Court remains silent. Israel is testing the international reaction by bombing the areas surrounding these schools; if we do not stop Israel from such war crimes, it will soon begin bombing schools in Lebanon that are full with displaced people.
Pope Leo gives a lesson on rediscovering silence to fight the "idolatry of profit and performance," and recognizing the quiet work of the Holy Spirit in daily life today at Catalonia's Olympic Stadium. The vibrant party city of Barcelona seemed to just travel into a different galaxy when the pontiff arrived for a dialogue with people sharing their powerful testimonies, often full of sorrow.
Answering a young man who said he was raised "hearing that the only goal in life is to be productive," and faced with "immense emptiness" he found way to God and was baptised this Easter, the pope said that "amid life’s joys, successes and defeats, we realize that we need a different kind of water to quench our deepest thirst. Our desire for truth and happiness requires wider horizons. This restlessness is a gift that God himself gives: We are made for the infinite, and that is why every finite horizon, every step, every achievement -- while satisfying us -- also propels us forward and invites us to keep searching."
"In our societies, the idolatry of profit and performance,
the drive to always produce and win, as well as the cult of self-image, are nothing more than anesthetics designed to numb our conscience and mold it to a certain vision of society," the pope told those gathered at Barcelona's Olympic stadium.
"When people learn to pause and value what is important, appreciate time in a new way and reflect on their own lives while allowing themselves to be enlightened by the Gospel, they also develop a critical
perspective on a social system that does not put people first and creates situations of injustice and existential poverty at various levels."
"We believe that the Holy Spirit acts and works silently in all situations of life and history, even the most difficult ones. However, we must nurture this restlessness and make room for it. As I said, 'look within' and try not to be overwhelmed by the pace of life and external temptations. Cultivate moments of silence, perhaps pausing for a few minutes each day to read the Gospel and speak with God."

@btselem@kiwis4hemp What other excuses will Israel use to protect the IOF's criminal forces who kill children? Enough of these genocide-crazed men, complete their crimes. The world has had enough.

New footage obtained by B’Tselem uncovers the moments when the Abu Haikal family was shot. Seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal was killed in the shooting, and both his parents were injured. The footage clearly shows that the Israeli soldier fired at the car as it was slowing to a stop. The car was far from the soldiers and posed no danger to them whatsoever.
Moments later, in another video obtained by B’Tselem, seven-month-old Sam’s father, Fahed, is seen just after his son was shot. Fahed is holding baby Sam in his arms, trying to stop the bleeding from his head with his hands, while Sam’s mother, Daniyah, who was also injured by the gunfire while holding her son, is seen sitting on the ground, next to the car.
Last Friday, 5 June, an Israeli soldier fired at a Palestinian family driving home from a family visit, as they sat in their car in the Tel Rumeidah neighborhood in Hebron. The family was shot as the car was slowing to a stop at the soldier’s command. Sam, a seven‑month‑old baby who was in his mother’s arms in the back seat, was struck in the head and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Sam’s parents were also injured by the gunfire; his mother is still in the hospital. After the shooting, the soldier who fired and another soldier who was with him left the scene without checking the car or offering any assistance to the critically wounded baby or to his mother.
In the past two and a half years, Israel has killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza and the West Bank. The immunity it gets from the international community has led to a reality where, under Israeli rule, Palestinian lives are entirely disposable – even a seven‑month‑old baby.
This girl's father tried to kill her mother. A stranger stepped in to shield her, and was killed. The father went to prison, mother turned to drugs. She found Jesus eventually -- through family love and youth retreat -- but struggles to forgive.
"And sometimes I look up to heaven and ask God, 'Where were you when I was a little girl?' Holy Father, how can I forgive my father for almost leaving me without a mother? How can I truly be reconciled with God?"
Pope Leo said the scope of the question should be broadened:
"Should we ask 'where was God'? Or should we ask ourselves about humanity, about how we are sometimes prisoners of evil, resorting to violence against others? How is it that we fail to cultivate love and respect for others’ dignity and freedom? So many crime reports, even today, reflect a toxic climate in family relationships marked by abuse and oppression and, in particular, by violence against women, which unfortunately often leads to femicide."
"We cannot attribute to God what has been entrusted to our responsibility; we cannot imagine that God, from on high, will automatically respond to our needs or miraculously prevent evil from happening."
"He has given us his own Spirit, precisely so that love may be the key to all our human relationships. If violence exists, if selfishness prevails, if even love among family members turns into hatred, we must question the dynamics of our society, the culture of
individualism and the temptation of violence — but not God."
On forgiveness, he said:
"Above all, we must seek forgiveness from the Lord. We must continually ask the Lord — perhaps for our entire lives — to expand the space of love within us,
precisely where we have been wounded, that he can help us reconcile with ourselves and with that
part of our past that has been marked by suffering, so that he may slowly transform resentment into
mercy and compassion."
"This is a long journey," the pope said, "and a process that requires great patience. It is an effort we must make, both on a personal level and through other means of support and inner reconciliation."
"We must not lose heart: we move forward in small steps toward forgiveness. Reconciliation with the past is gradual. Above all, we must not think that forgiveness always and in every case means returning to the previous situation or having a close relationship with those who have hurt us, especially when there was violence. We can maintain a good disposition of heart toward the person, reject all forms of hatred or revenge, strive to repair the relationship as much as possible and perhaps pray for him or her. This helps us to enter more and more into the dynamic of forgiveness and to be reconciled with God and with others."
