Jaadugar: A Witch's Life in Mongolia (Tenmaku no Jādugal) is a Japanese anime about a Muslim woman who serves the Mongol Empire and demonstrates her intelligence, resilience, and dignity.
I was already a fan of the original manga, but the first episode of the Jaadugar anime is not only visually stunning, it also portrays, through wonderfully nuanced and compelling characters, how deeply Islamic civilization has valued knowledge and intellect. I was truly moved.
"Beneath stories of gods and heroes lay metaphysical doctrines inaccessible to purely rational analysis. To hear myth properly required neither skepticism nor naive literalism, but symbolic consciousness."
From my Article, "The Gods were not Abstractions."
