“The most powerful money-makers are individual brands.” — @naval
Three-step formula:
1) Pick a small, but growing niche.
2) Learn as much as you can.
3) Publish the best of what you learn.
All the information you need is in your fingertips.
Start publishing.
Cold emails are a great way to land a job.
Here's what I've learned:
∙ Email the CEO directly.
∙ Show that you're unique.
∙ Be specific.
∙ Make a bold request.
∙ Have a clear call-to-action.
∙ Don't be humble. This isn't the time to be modest.
Now... make magic happen.
@niraj@tylercowen Ok, friends... I typed up an example for you.
I used the example of @TaskRabbit and added a random employee's name.
It's yours. 100% yours.
Copy it, change the words, and email the coolest person you can think of.
@niraj@tylercowen@TaskRabbit Cold emails and writing online are the ultimate 1-2 punch.
"The benefits of writing online compound over time. Like any smart investment, it builds on itself. Write something once and you can share it for the rest of your life."

Some founders derisively bucket some investors as lower priority 'practice pitch VCs.'
I'm happy to be one. I love working through a messy narrative and trying to make it better, and I love getting an early look at a great company.
So yeah. Brendan Baker, practice pitch VC.
:)
Fundraising is not natural. As a Founder of 4 VC-backed companies & now a VC, it's painful to see great Founders get tripped up by counterintuitive realities of pitching.
Today I'm sharing 16 non-obvious pitching lessons that make a critical difference.

I'm setting aside 4 hr/week to help other founders.
How can I help you?
📝 Writing — Topics. Editing. Copy.
✨ Product — Dev. Design. Strategy.
🧠 Productivity — Focus. Motivation.
Why? To hone my skills.
Just grab a time. Totally free. Here to help. https://t.co/SzvhG50I1k
If you received a YC interview invite, I'd be happy to do a mock interview! Just fill out the below form.
I did yc 07/09 and was a part time partner. I probably did more than 50 mock interviews last batch. Always great to pay it forward.

I love all of these @gitlab values, but specifically the callout to give people “Negative feedback 1:1” and “Say thanks publicly.” Assume every person means well and is just trying their best - you can really hurt a person with public criticism. https://t.co/Fgey6ijjQD

Having an amazing network of people around you to talk shop is like having a superpower — esp important when trying to do something insanely difficult like starting w co, raising money, shipping a new product
But the tools to build these networks are outrageously outdated!
Free startup idea: https://t.co/LcAdK2g5Ph rethought for fully remote meetups. Today I can find a great job in the middle of nowhere with remote work, but how do I stay connected to my tribe?
If you're a startup founder in San Francisco looking to network with two-dozen+ other founders and investors over dinner and poker, DM me ... we've got a game happening Oct. 10th in SOMA.
I love when people are early. I love when people are on time. I love when people are late. I love when people reply to my emails. I love when they don’t. I love those who agree with me and those who don’t.
I love the idea that I can love everything, and only I can stop me.
On the internet, they say:
1% create
9% contribute
90% consume
All it takes is to start contributing and you'll have a 10x advantage over everyone else. Create and it'll be 90x.
