@7sharp9_ After several years away from C++ I have picked it up again recently. My memory for the std lib is horrendously. Bad yet I don’t particularly struggle with any other language.
@ELuciusFTW@ellesystem@qntm To be clear, it didn’t insult and I was very direct with my language, because I have a math background but don’t deal with direct definitions like this, my brain doesn’t work that way. I and others struggled with the monadic concept in programming despite understanding it in math
@ELuciusFTW@ellesystem@qntm People aren’t scared of math, confidence plays a big part in this, lack of confidence leads to people wanting to ask questions but not because the barrier is too high (apparently). Also the entire thread is in the context of types (big hint for programming)
@ELuciusFTW@ellesystem@qntm Because describing it like that you are basically being a dick to everyone that is trying to understand the concept. This is not what this thread is trying to achieve. It is fine for everyone has done math. But that’s not the point there are real advantages to simplifying things
After spending 45 mins applying several “advanced” techniques to solve a problem essentially of the form
2a^2 - 2a - C = 0
and getting nowhere. When I finally spotted I could complete the square I was so happy. Don’t let your knowledge blind you from the obvious…
@Savlambda @7sharp9_ The key here is might, but an even bigger question is it up to date? Also what happens when a new NFR or requirement comes along that doesn’t fit the mould. You are back to hours of conversation and decision which until it is tried, it is ultimately a guess.
Unfortunately, my Internet provider, @bt_uk (AS2856), does NOT implement BGP safely. Check out https://t.co/YHDATxipB2 to see if your ISP implements BGP in a safe way or if it leaves the Internet vulnerable to malicious route hijacks. via @Cloudflare
