say it with me now. experts are fake, smart generalists rule the world, everything is designed by people no smarter than you, and courage is in shorter supply than genius
Came head to head with BCG and Deloitte on a recent proposal.
The head of engineering at the client company asked me a couple of interesting questions.
1. How do I pitch your brand to the other executives? We already trust BCG/Deloitte. My response to this was pretty incredulous. They have a self published 80% failure rate, provide expensive headcount as a product, and this client has already lost ~70% of their enterprise value since going public. Why trust what’s clearly not working ?
2. Do you have sufficient capacity? The mindset here is weird to me. AI exists, our small team can build you an entirely new product line that actually brings in incremental revenue.
3. Is the Strategia Axiom strategy assessment tool just a series of good prompts ? Yes, but those prompts were crafted by people who called many company failures / successes stemming from AI adoption with their product thinking framework. And for the client, it highlighted an existential threat BCG missed, in the demo we did. You’re fundamentally looking for different viewpoints to help strategize, might as well go through this process at 1/3rd the cost of BCG.
Long winded, but that’s what we’re seeing when we bump up against incumbents.
@ChadwKeller Can you breakdown the systems you used ? I’d like to know how the market research, marketing, product quality, and ops were thought about.
@saleskhalifa Yep. Some marketing and good skill can get you a few 100k profit this way. But scaling a specific service and ops to many clients is level 2 most never beat.
Did some light consulting this week with a PE firm that has already lost billions from moving too slowly to understand the implications of AI adoption.
Should have immediately unloaded their assets when ChatGPT launched but they had no one thinking about AI strategy pre 2026.
