Whereas Canadian gov't is "paternalistic". I'm acknowledging both countries' ugly histories. It's not a competition. You're the one being emotional.

@CustMichael @Steve_in_TO @Noahpinion I never said any of it is OK, you're pretending that the Canadian government's treatment, of first nations people is somehow unique compared to US. Where you claim they're are no laws on the books now, that discriminate against first nations people. Which is a big claim!

@CustMichael @Steve_in_TO @Noahpinion That law has been amended many times, and the law altogether isn't bad. Which is why according to a CBC article Pierre Trudeau tried to abolish it in 1969 with something called the white paper - but was met with resistance from first nations people.

@CustMichael @Steve_in_TO @Noahpinion The US gov't kidnapped and forced native children into boarding schools, to erase their language and culture. Also the gov't had a Bureau of Indian Affairs a federal agency. The cruelty in both countries was largely the same, maybe differing on a case by case basis.

"They’re considered part of the Frontier or the wild — a quinessentially American people". ??? Americans also tried to assimilate them as well.

@barbarismcrit How about people can make up their own mind about. You don't have to be left wing on everything. Although I agree getting an abortion should always be a choice. So unless you want total conformity - having a difference of opinion, is a sign you can think for yourself.
