Whenever I watch parliamentary proceedings, I weep for my Mt Kenya people. In the great 'hustler' fervour of the last election, there was a narrative of anti-intellectualism.
Under the guise of elevating the “common man,” we installed a gang of representatives who are, to put it delicately, not intellectually overburdened. A general disdain for those we deemed posh. This is not to disparage simplicity or sincerity. Not at all.

But you see it when others articulate matters of national importance in parliament. We know our reps' sound bytes will come from political rallies or a tiktok video.

The presidency is a national matter, and all Kenyans will have their say. But we need to send our best sons and daughters next time to the August house to represent us in the next election.

It is not enough to win power. We must be worthy of it.
