An ‘energy price cap’ that doesn’t cap energy prices, a pensions ‘triple lock’ that doesn’t lock pensions, ‘affordable housing’ that few can afford, and a ‘national living wage’ that’s not enough to live on. The lexicon of British politics is laden with doublespeak.
•Capping energy prices is a necessary immediate step.
•It will apparently cost £29 billion for 6 months.
•But the whole energy industry is dysfunctional.
•It would cost £2.9 billion to take into public ownership!
New polling shows that 66% of the public support public ownership of energy.
So it (i) is popular, (ii) makes economic sense, and (iii) gives democratic control to put our need before their greed.
The case for public ownership is overwhelming.
Manchester United's rivals have owners who put money into their clubs. United's ownership model means £1.5bn has been taken out. The money spent on transfers has come from supporters not owners. Supporters want their money spent on the club. Not interest, bank charges & dividends
This isn't a digital rendering of what the future might look like. This is a satellite photo. This is not normal. This is a climate & nature emergency. #climate#ClimateCrisis
What a painful, unedifying, dismaying, sickening spectacle the Tory 'leadership' (!) thing is.
Dragging out the useless agony of it while the country is in dire trouble.
Be very clear, we have to wait an hour for an ambulance if we are having a heart attack or stroke, because This Government is intent on collapsing the NHS.
Seemingly, willing to let 1000s die so they can exploit our healthcare needs for money!
Ruthless, deadly greed!
Water Corp CEOs are trying to say your hose pipe is to blame for their water shortage.
Not the 2.3 billion litres of water they lose in leakages every day.
A rip off & a con.
The record of privatised water utilities:-
•No new water reservoirs in 30yrs+;
•3.2bn litres of water lost every single day;
•2bn litres of raw sewage dumped in the Thames in two days;
•£72bn in dividends paid to shareholders;
•Debt of £56bn;
•Bills up by 40%
Nationalise.
Jacob Rees Mogg wrote an article criticising lazy civil servants staying at home. It featured this photo, supposedly of empty desks in the Serious Fraud Office. Unfortunately...the photo was actually taken in Rees Mogg's own cabinet office department. It has been quietly deleted.
Tragic news
The latest @CornwallInsight prediction, based on Ofgem's new methodology, is an 81% price cap rise in Oct (taking typical bill to £3,582/yr) and a further 19% in Jan (so £4,266/yr)
Action & planning is needed now. The zombie govt needs wake up sooner than 5 Sept...
