The fact that she is 23 and celebrating yet another birthday is unrelated to the plot, whereas in the source comic, her 21st birthday provides the narrative "excuse" for her intoxication.
Supergirl says "shit" several times, kills numerous bad guys, and is portrayed as a hungover drunken slob.
Why is Lobo in this movie? Why does Supergirl end up a murderer?
This all contributes to a diluted plotline and weakens the integrity of the character.
@TheStingisBack For all the social media hate it got, the movie was actually really good. I cheered this scene; it validates the effort and is a call to fans who grew up on this stuff.
5 at best. the story based on the comic was obliterated. Milly doesnt fit the suit very well, and she doesnt wear it until half the movie is over.
They turned Supergirl into a self loathing lush; and ultimately a murderer. She says "shit" at least 5 times in the movie, throws up a finger once or twice, and the fight scenes are absolute yawn.
Supergirl 1984 is a 10 compared to this trash. The special effects of the CW series outweight it dollar for dollar. Not worth a rewatch; will never see cult status.
After Batgirl (2022) was canceled, director Bilall Fallah says co-director Adil El Arbi told him to "shoot everything on your phone" before the footage vanished.
By the time he checked the server, he had already been blocked by the studio, "everything was gone" โ including the scenes featuring Michael Keaton's Batman.
Adding to the frustration, Brendan Fraser who was cast as the villain Firefly, later said the film's Gotham, created using Glasgow, was one of the best versions of the city he'd ever seen.
It was Warner Bros. Discovery that made the unprecedented decision to shelve the completed $90 million Batgirl movie as a tax write-off in August 2022.
Both directors expressed extreme frustration that they couldn't even keep the rare scenes they had shot featuring Michael Keaton as Batman, which were permanently lost to them.
Golden Age and Silver Age comics are becoming cultural artifacts. The world may never again see a contribution to popular art that was as pure, influential, and innovative.
These books introduced stories and archetypes that have endured for nearly a century, and the popularity and demand for these characters and ideas remain remarkably strong.
We are approaching a time when the value of these comics will extend beyond dollars and cents, standing as enduring pieces of cultural and artistic history.
@fandompulse The real problem is that they are still relying on cash cows. There aren't any fresh ideas, only new iterations of time tested favorites. A new age is dawning.
That said the speculation market for real artwork is the market for comics.
@bestofstarwar The theatrical release is a preservation of history; it should be treated the same as any work of art.
Even comics that have been "restored" or pressed lose value.
@cosmicbooknews All they have to do is stop trying to appeal to everyone and just make a good movie. Chasing after unviversal appeal only alienates the fandom.
