@fmch6444@JeffreyBrandes You can also look at Kansas after the Gov Brownback tax cuts.
Devastating service cuts. Political upheaval. Then reversal (and a Dem governor).
But those were statutory tax changes; this ballot question is changing the constitution— in a way that is near impossible to reverse
Buying a car without knowing the price is reckless.
Voting on a constitutional amendment without knowing the cost is worse.
Florida is being asked to fundamentally redesign local government finance before anyone can tell us the full fiscal impact.
That’s not reform.
That’s a leap of faith.

.@FloridaTaxWatch releases a statement on @GovRonDeSantis property tax proposal saying that "rather than force this issue to be decided in a hastily called Special Session it would be far better to have this issue taken up" by the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission, a sentiment expressed earlier in the day by @FLCities
NEW: The Florida Senate Appropriations committee is now tweaking the property tax cut proposal by Gov Ron DeSantis (@RonDeSantis).
Senator Avila (R) “adds a provision to authorize (property taxes) for operations of county constitutional officers & (county commissions).”
Two years from now, the most repeated sentence in the Florida Capitol will be:
“That’s not what we intended.”
Public policy isn’t judged by what supporters hope will happen. It’s judged by what actually happens after everyone starts reacting to it.
The decisions made in this special session will negatively impact Florida for generations. FAC has developed an interactive map that allows you to show legislators the impact these bills would have on your county. https://t.co/Gzq2vqMZuL
This week, we visited the @jimmoraninst (and the @JimMoranCollege), learning all about Jim Moran's life and the great work JMI does throughout Florida, especially here in Leon County.
It was an honor to attend today's Memorial Day ceremony hosted by American Legion Sauls-Bridges Post 13, Tallahassee, FL.
Today we honor and remember those who lost their lives in service to our nation.
To be clear: This is not Leon County filing a lawsuit. This is the county commission mulling the idea.
A "status report" will come back in June, at which point the commission will decide if it should hire outside counsel to determine if they have 1. Standing 2. Chance of success
NEW: The Leon County Commission votes 5-1 to explore the idea of suing the State of Florida over SB 1134, generally known as the anti-DEI bill.
Commissioner Caban was a no. Commissioner Maddox was a late yes.
Commissioner O'Keefe was the sponsor.
Commissioners Minor and O’Keefe have already said they won’t vote to defund COCA.
That means four out of the other five would need to vote option 1 to defund.
This week in district five:
✅ Commission Meeting - Charter amendments, affordable rental housing ordinance, and more.
✅ Blueprint meeting - Bond financing, new economic development proposal to expand local pharmacy operation.

NEW: Leon County Commissioners are announcing a Tallahassee mobile home park will repay taxpayers $33,000 for emergency services and a rent abatement to 44 homeowners.
At the time water was lost, the park did not have a permit.
