@ocdsmh I started a new job this week & there was so much listening required as I began learning the ropes. I went off into rumination many times & consequently had thoughts coming up like ‘You never listen, you’re not learning anything, you’re terrible at this job.’
ocd: that ceiling fan might fall on your head
me: no it won't
ocd: just google it to be sure
me: fine. i'm googling it to prove to you that ceiling fans never, ever fall...
me: ...damnit
ocd: lol. all bad things can and do happen.
One of the most important factors in overcoming OCD is developing a tolerance for uncertainty. OCD was once known as 'The Doubting Disease.' Doubt is a hallmark.
Accepting that there is almost no certainty on this planet is crucial to recovering.
I have this conversation every single day. I never really thought about it before but why do I let it get to me so much? This tweet helps see how silly it is. Next time this thought comes to mind, I’m not going to take it so seriously!
I asked the support group which emotion is the most difficult for them & used their responses to generate this AI created art. https://t.co/G0rjX2diVV
Amazing how OCD can take a healthy habit like daily exercise and turn it into an obsession, applying cruel amounts of pressure & anxiety, making it feel like the biggest deal in the universe, a matter of life & death, THE thing that defines your worth as a person…
Forget the goal of trying to force obsessions out of your brain. In telling yourself to not think of something, you are already thinking about what you're not supposed to think about. The goal is to be able to coexist with your thoughts. Therapy can help.
