Hey doctors, not having a solution for a problem, doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Validating your patient's experiences, whether you have an answer or not, can stretch MILES for their overall wellbeing. That's #goodmedicine
@Imani_Barbarin I’ve experience it & was SO grateful for my study of anatomy. While I couldn’t remember the name for it, I knew what I was looking at. I thought “huh, that’s kinda cool” before flushing & taking a damn nap. While the cramps were awful, I didn’t hate the one & done period.
@ZingerMagazine@Imani_Barbarin Disability is a requirement for MAID eligibility. By your modest estimates, 10% of that population never received any supports, & the rest have received an undefined measure of services. Let’s play & say they received the maximal support possible. You’re just cool with that 10%?
@AresRenew@Imani_Barbarin I don’t know the stats, but do know some folks with first hand experience dealing with this. They were all but forced to resign to MAID being their only option by way of medical gaslighting and all out denial of medical care. It’s cheaper to kill someone than care for them.
The autistic experience of noticing patterns that you find concerning, but questioning whether you need to be concerned or whether you’re overthinking or looking too deeply into them because you’re used to spotting issues before other people do but you’re also used to being told that you’re worrying about nothing.
@mahxiackorvo@NoNonsenseND Omg THANK YOU! I’ve searched the comments on some version of this thread multiple times because I just could not figure out what it was supposed to be 😂😂😂😂
When you buy a gun, you’re shown pictures of gunshot victims.
If your neighbor suspects you of buying a gun, they can call a hotline.
If you’re from a state where guns are illegal, you can be arrested if you buy a gun out of state.
Oh sorry, these are all abortion laws.
Yea. I said it.
White privilege means Black households get treated like a widespread crisis. But almost every school shooter can be a white male and there's no national emergency about how white families raise their children.
I’m begging people to understand that privilege plays a significant role in one’s ability to survive as a disabled person.
In Canada - it also plays a role in whether or not you end up having euthanasia “suggested” to you as a treatment option.

Did you know...?
Autistic burnout is pervasive, long-term (3+ months) exhaustion, loss of function, and reduced tolerance to stimulus. It's described as being the result of chronic life stress and a mismatch of expectations and abilities without adequate supports.

Tampon Tim sounds like Santa Claus but for periods. Like on the night before you start bleeding he visits your house and leaves baskets of menstrual products under your sink. We should sing carols about him
@mrs_g_rider Toddler and teen brains have some remarkable similarities developmentally in regards to processing cause and effect, impulse control, and emotional regulation. It’s why they are my two favorite demographics to work with in care and education 😂
Remember, everyone:
YOU DESERVE TO BE RESPECTED AND PROTECTED!
People who love you shouldn't expect you to accept harm (ie: #SARSCoV2) to secure their time and care.
That's not love. That's being coerced & manipulated into harm. It's a major violation of mind, body and trust.
Autistic people can have unusual reactions to pain. Some of us may not even flinch at pulling a muscle, breaking a bone or sustaining a huge blow, yet become overwhelmed by a paper cut, a hair rubbing against our face, or certain fabrics touching our skin.
