Settings where people across different social strata can freely brush shoulders is always subversive
especially if it doubles as a site of public coronations & executions—reminding voyeurs wherever they perch that they could be next for either fate
but i also feel that if I discovered it any earlier — before my family had the ability to inculcate core values and before I developed some of my own taste, exposure to such a profusion of mimetic influences would've been net negative
grateful that the internet & social media revolution increased the pool of mimetic influences I was exposed to as a teenager—otherwise all my desires & aspirations would've been limited to my immediate surroundings
the "global village" can be terrifying as it exposes you to more rat races than you'd find in your immediate geographic surroundings, but in the process you might gradually realize that you can choose more carefully
