Disappointing that electronic media have ignored the best comparison to America250: our 1976 Bicentennial. President Gerald Ford was in the midst of a highly competitive contest with Jimmy Carter yet Ford resisted demeaning the ceremonies for partisan purposes. But America had higher standards back then. Here’s an idea: TV could use videotape archives to show how a dignified POTUS handled the situation.
@ants21597@RealJasonCuevas@UltraMegaMe@AriFleischer A) It shouldn't have happened because of the 1866 law banning living people from currency.
B) The vast majority of those coins were returned to the mint and melted because of poor public reception.

@DianeCPiette@Illuminati196@CBSNews@nancycordes Can you please post a source for this? The only source saying this is Richard Grenell in the Daily Mail, and he did not provide any documentation attesting to anything he claimed. By contrast, here's published information about the KC's 2024 financials.

... They didn't want a Versailles,” said Peter Baker of The New York Times.
“George Washington and the group that brought us the White House wanted something that was the 'people's house.' ...
“What's really remarkable too is how anathema it is to the original design of the White House. The original idea of the White House was to produce a relatively modest home for a president compared to the palaces of Europe. ...
@DWyman293225@tedcruz She did a redecoration that included replacing the modern furniture with furnishings that were more historic, some of which had been taken by previous first families. She also oversaw the replanting/re-landscaping the Rose Garden and East Garden (which is now named for her).
@AllJustFootball@COConstitution1@miglet35@akwfalcon1@ReichlinMelnick@AntiToxicPeople Yes and while the West & East wings were neatly balanced against the original 55,000 sq ft White House residence, this 90,000 sq ft ballroom will create a significant imbalance to one side and overwhelm it. The wings were built in ways to maintain the primacy of the original bldg
@ahhokaythen@TokensArcade@TheTenderGinger@BoringBiz_ The point is that the prevailing view from politicians, parents, teachers, and others throughout the 80's, 90's and 2000's was that people shouldn't have kids they could not afford because that would be detrimental to children, family, and society. Sensible, in my opinion.
“For the millions of families gathered around their wireless sets, and for their loved ones still serving far from home, it was the message a battle-weary world had long prayed for - ‘The war is over’.”

Watching today’s Trooping the Colour in London. Such a magnificent spectacle, full of history and tradition without military bombast.
Very much doubt Donald Trump’s military parade will come anywhere near it later today in Washington DC. For a start the sun is shining on a glorious London whereas it is threatening to rain on Mr Trump’s parade. ☔️☔️☔️
That's not the South African government. That's part of the opposition that received 9.52% of the vote in the National Assembly elections last year and lost five seats.
BREAKING: President Trump brings a TV into the Oval Office in front of the South African President and shows him a video of his own government calling for the genocide of white farmers.
Savage.
"Turn the lights down. Turn the lights down and just put this on."
Cyril Ramaphosa was speechless 😂
This is a lie. The Olympic was not declared uninsurable. The damage was serious, but not unrepairable. She was repaired by Harland & Wolff in six weeks and placed back into service.
A year before the disaster, the Olympic was involved in a serious collision with the Royal Navy cruiser, HMS Hawke.
It was badly damaged and declared uninsurable.
What if White Star Line switched them to commit the greatest insurance fraud in history?
Absolutely not true. Titanic's hull number 401 was stamped in several places, including the propeller blades, which can be seen on the wreck today. Olympic's hull number 400 was found stamped on the back of wood panelling that was removed when she was scrapped in 1935-36.
The plan:
- Rename the damaged Olympic as Titanic.
- Send it out to sea, ‘accidentally’ sink it, and collect the massive insurance payout.
Far-fetched? Maybe. But keep reading...
Absolute nonsense. Morgan cancelled because of ill health (and died the following year), and the outward-bent plating was due the Titanic's hard landing on the ocean floor, which caused the hull to be bent in that area.
Meanwhile, J.P. Morgan had a first-class ticket on the Titanic—but canceled his trip at the last minute.
In 1985, researchers discovered the Titanic wreck.
But when they examined the hull, they found something shocking:
The metal plating was bent outward.
This suggests an explosion inside the ship—not just an iceberg impact.
