@matthewstoller Of course founders and their investors want a pass on liability to mitigate the risks they must disclose to exit via IPO. They aren’t self-serving, they are putting humanity first. And people actually believe it!

[Matt Stoller @matthewstoller]

In the AI discourse, there's this very weird dynamic. People seem to think that enforcing current laws against powerful people is impossible, but also that we need more laws. Why? What's the point of regulation if we can't enforce? This whole thing makes no sense.

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@matthewstoller If influencers were required by FEC to disclose whom they are paid yo advocate for, this wouldn’t happen. Transparency benefits everyone but the people who think “free speech”=anonymity. Doubt the founders would agree.

[COMRADITY @comradity]

Today’s Supreme Court decision will increase spending on political Influencers and media companies which are paid to amplify them. When will the FEC require disclosure of paid messaging? https://t.co/v6dFeCY6Tx

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@matthewstoller Like his position to support small businesses instead of monopolies. But how? For example, Venture investors invest in “small business”. But they invest in scale - which means flawed products for free. How about incentivizing investment in small businesses people will pay for.

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@matthewstoller There used to be limitations on media ownership too to maintain diversity in point if view AND no one could afford to buy all the press, assuring freedom of the press. Today, media is controlled by a few owners - Bezos, Zuckerberg, and the Finance industry who protect them.

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@ClintMicheau @mtaibbi But in those days advertisers actually cared about the context where they ran ads. When I was in advertising companies refused to run ads in National Enquirer which attracted readers with rumors and misleading headlines. Now all journalism is like that.

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@CareyF_Smith @mtaibbi Exactly

[COMRADITY @comradity]

@mtaibbi Why the change? I suspect the media cos. monetize journalists’ social media traffic. The evidence is how much Rachel Maddow, for example, is paid relative to her broadcast ratings - totally out of proportion. On social media journalists can get away with anything.

With legacy media ratings as low as they are, source of revenue cannot be ads, exclusively, they must be paid “spin” on air and in social media. Why aren’t they required to disclose when they are paid to spin or paid for social media reaction?
