Comics are back next week. BUCKLE UP! Funny story: Multiple people were like "Oh it must have been nice for you guys to take a break or slow down on the creative side..." to which I laugh hysterically. We don't stop. We're just further ahead. :) 19, 20, 21, 22, 23,24,25, 26 are all DONE and ready. 27 final touches. 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 are all in the process of creation now.

Yeah, the card stock definitely helps. I think that, up through release #17, printer roller marks on the back cover, and sometimes the front, are usually what keep most copies at a 9.8, which by definition, can still allow for minor manufacturing imperfections.

Most of the CGC 10s seem to be foils, especially Cracked Ice and Shimmer, because they have a different coating. But if the printing process improves and stops leaving those extra marks on the covers, I think we’ll see a lot more 10s in the future.

The @veefriends organic CGC population grew by 152 comics in July, bringing the total to 1,930.

That is an 8.5% monthly increase, but the top of the grading scale barely moved. Only two of those new submissions earned a perfect CGC 10. 🧵

I think August will bring very interesting numbers into the conversation. @ALLinMiami mentioned that he submitted over 500 comics for grading, and the excitement around the National likely led to another increase in submissions. August could potentially be one of the biggest months we see all year.

Farm Fights was July’s biggest mover in the @veefriends CGC population, adding 19 graded copies.

But the issue-level total only tells part of the story. Thirteen of those new slabs were Cover B, the 2,000-copy variant illustrated by legendary Eisner Award-winning and Emmy-nominated comic artist @sinKEVitch

That makes Cover B the real driver behind the jump. It does not predict price, but it shows why population growth should always be examined at the variant level. The issue moved. Cover B explains how.

July’s biggest mover was Farm Fights #13, which added 19 graded copies.

Thirteen of those submissions came from Cover B, the scarcer 2,000-copy cover, rather than the more widely available Cover A.

That consistency is what makes the population worth tracking.

Print runs tell us how many comics were produced. The census begins showing us how many survive grading at the highest level.

In this line, perfect condition remains a separate layer of scarcity.
