@NoahCRothman I think the lesson here is: Don’t start a war that you’ll soon be desperate to end.
Allowing Iran to shut the Strait unchallenged going into the ceasefire was a colossal mistake that handed them a huge negotiating chip. Just terrible. How did they not see this coming?
@emollick The coding agents themselves are often bad at using their latest capabilities and best practices because of their training cutoff date. I find that I have to regularly tell them to read the latest documentation to make sure they are using their best stuff
@gokulr A big problem with consumer-facing AI products is that the tokens cost via API is variable and can be expensive, but most early adopters have their own AI subscriptions that cover direct usage of AI. I think will be hard to get consumers to pay incrementally for other AI apps.
@johnarnold I think there are some amendments to limit executive overreach that would have a shot at getting popular support enough to actually get passed, but would take consistent support over many years. Good project for someone like you!
@KevRGordon@carlquintanilla These are not all the same people that responded in 2008-2010. And for 40+ yo adults, if you directly asked “Is today worse than 2008-2010?” you may get a very different response than what’s implied by this chart. Sentiment score responses are relative to many other factors.
@EdwardConard@Noahpinion The first year with significant declines across most ages was 2008, which of course was also the start of the deepest recession in a generation. So multiple things going on here. In 2008 few people had smartphones that they spent a lot of time using, that changed more gradually
@mattyglesias I think there are good reasons to ban phones in schools other than it improves grades and reduces bullying. One reason is that phones are often used for cheating. But in general being with people and away from a phone for a few hours is a pro-social environment.
@LPDonovan I meant to imply it helps him continue to maintain and monetize his notoriety, which helps him make more $, so an incentive beyond just ego alone
@gokulr I think the length of long term vision should be a function of how capital intensive is the business and how long is the R&D cycle. So banks, power generation, and biotech may need 10 year vision, but I think that’s too long for most tech and services, 5 year is better grounding
@mattyglesias That map also doesn’t look visually weird like other state’s gerrymandered maps, which I think helps sell it to normies as being reasonable
@kevinroose I’m guessing that training data currently for musical notation is primary as images rather than as a type of language, so the patterns don’t get much reinforcement and the labs haven’t focused on that use case. May be different if trained on notations like they do a language
@JHWeissmann They sold the Allbirds brand, you can still buy the shoes. This is just the holding company using the proceeds from the brand sale to do something else.
