@RhysSullivan As a kid I started on BASIC (not even an editor, just typing numbered lines), then Turbo C++. In comparison VSCode is amazing and Claude and Codex even more so, but the fundamentals haven't changed: use technology for creative problem solving
@historyinmemes I've read The Odyssey and I'm reading The Iliad now. I didn't know about the others. It's a shame they're lost, though perhaps the best two survived.
I haven't seen The Odyssey movie yet, but I recently read Homer for the first time. If you're planning to see the film, I'd recommend reading the book. Some thoughts on Athena and what it means to have godlike qualities. ๐งต
@RhysSullivan I'd like to experiment with automated loops on the right problem. The only loop I've tried is the classic human in the loop; it may be "slow" but the output is good.
I noticed my terminal startup was slow, about 1-2 seconds. I used AI to help investigate with zprof. Found one line "source <(ng completion script)" for Angular CLI completions was taking ~880ms on every launch. Cached it to a static file and it starts up almost instantly now.
@ThePrimeagen It is super cool and an exciting time in software engineering! From code generation to low code to AI agentsโฆ the industry has always been built on automating as much coding as possible
@markgadala The prompt literally starts with "analyze the assets folder". Fable didn't design this but assembled it well. Garbage in, garbage out still applies and in this case with some decent inputs.
I keep thinking about Kranzberg first law: "Technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral." AI is the most impactful technology I've seen since the smartphone. The consequences for software development are already playing out and it's only just getting started.
