I was so excited to hear there was an Indian woman as home secretary. Finally a role model for women who didn't think it was possible.
What a fucking disappointment.

Where is the support for PhD students who are being told to stay at home and not work and not get paid? PhD students are slipping through the net but are vital for scientific advancement #AcademicChatter#Lockdown3#phdchat#phdchat@AcademicChatter
1/1000 ways it has for me is the inability to change environments on campus or to be in a cafe to just catch up on phd work, esp at weekends. Used to be a literal mind saver. Now it feels like I'm constantly drowning

@Maurice_Y_Lee Controversial: I think it's silly that we hire postdocs the way we do. Postdocs could be employed by the Institution on permanent posts, and allocated to projects as grants come in. Who doesn't want access to well-trained staff?
Who doesn't want the option of job security? 🤷♀️
Madness and terrifying both at the same time. The US government has gone rogue at a time of humanitarian emergency. All leaders must call for renewed international solidarity in support of multilateral cooperation. And we must give steadfast support to WHO.
Do grad students get paid a lot? No. But do we at least have solid job security? Also, no. But are we at least ensured a stress-free work environment with a healthy work-life balance? Still, also no.
With all the poorly reported info out there on #COVID-19, I wonder if scientists should help write COVID-19 news articles instead.. #phdchat#AcademicTwitter
This is a scientist who inspires me every time he talks. And very humble. Need more of these scientists. So glad he is better
