A veteran Halifax seafarer recently passed away at 101. Patricia Martinson went to sea in WWII & served as a merchant officer until 1980. She had great stories! There is an obit in the Oct. 26 Chronicle Herald that is worth reading: https://t.co/XCihJjJdKE
The municipal councillor candidates for District 9, Armdale Halifax West, are meeting the public today 4:30 to 6:30pm at 6418 Quinpool Rd (Oxford Tap Room upstairs). Good primer for the Oct. 19 municipal elections. (Info on voting here: https://t.co/E4Mue9NOfA )
RMS Queen Mary 2 is in Halifax today. The historic "Doctor's Window" at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, where I work, has a great close-up view of this legendary Cunard liner. Love the rat guards on the mooring lines with paint schemes that matche QM2's hull!
Today is the United Nation's The International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. The new Pier 21 exhibition "A History Exposed: The Enslavement of Black People in Canada" is a great introduction to this, often-overlooked topic: https://t.co/3zes9PaIeA

@BowersWrites@Legion_Magazine A fine piece. Nice balance of the big picture of the context of closing the gap and the impressive details of the fighting! And thank you for crediting Lt. Don Grant for that famous shot of Curry in the act of winning the VC.
A fine view of the bow of the ship Queen Mary 2, taken from "the Doctor's Window" in the Pier 21 gallery at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. RMS Queen Mary 2 is scheduled to leave at 5 pm today.
We had a Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony at Pier 21 this morning. If you ever get a chance to take in one of these, go! They are very moving and fill you with hope for Canada's future.
Queen Mary 2 is for Canada Day at Pier 21. Come down and see her and see us! We are free today with all kinds of fun activities - inside and out of the rain!
The exhibition "Refuge Canada" opens today at the Chilliwack Museum and Archives in BC. It looks at the experiences of refugees and Canada's track record in responding to refugee crises. Packed with powerful features like this replica migrant boat, it runs until Sept. 20.
Canadian photographers & cameramen like Ken Bell, Bill Grant and Gilbert Milne did outstanding work on D-Day Less well-known are some vivid colour shots like this one of followup wave landing on the still-smoking beach. Original at Library & Archives Canada.
@banreportcards@oldcanadaseries It was taken on D-day, apparently at a German unit HQ or engineering office just in from the beaches. Love to know more but here's all that Library and Archives Canada have on it: https://t.co/P0D49c9q5A
