CAWF raises awareness of intensive factory farming’s impact on animals, environment and health, driving change through policy reform

[Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation @ConservativeAWF]

Thank you to all MPs and Peers who have worked to end live exports in Parliament for years. And to all the orgs, campaigners and public who have tirelessly worked to end this vile trade. GB is the first in Europe to ban live animal exports & we hope other countries will introduce their own bans

It’s #WorldFarmAnimalsDay Right now, billions of sentient farm animals are suffering miserable, short lives crammed in cages and crates on industrial factory farms across the world. They are denied a blade of grass, the sun and the stars. We need change for these animals. End factory farming https://t.co/HNZZ95eQwO

Mega-dairies’ blamed for pollution of Britain’s rivers’. Britain’s rivers are being polluted by a boom in American-style “mega-dairies”, campaigners have warned, with the number of cows kept permanently indoors doubling in the last decade’

@slingshot_uk_ Good to see this and many thanks for including the link to CAWF’s report ‘ The Hidden Harms of Factory Farms: How They Cost Taxpayers Millions’ which examines the hidden costs of intensive industrial farming, including pollution, public health harms and lost farming jobs

[Project Slingshot UK @slingshot_uk_]

A report by Slingshot Investigates reveals taxpayers have spent more than £200m cleaning up bird flu on UK poultry farms since 2020.

They let the disease in. We got the bill. Read the full story 👉 https://t.co/GOwa92UZr7

UK taxpayers are footing the bill for poultry disease outbreaks, despite biosecurity breaches on some farms’:@slingshot_uk_

Our six research reports set out the urgent case for strengthening legal protections for farmed fish at slaughter. Together, they provide clear, evidence-based proposals calling for fish to be afforded the same welfare protections as other farmed animals: CAWF reports:

Frankenchickens are fast-growing chickens bred to reach slaughter weight in just a few weeks. Many suffer painful leg and bone problems, struggling to move, lameness and heart failure. A shift to slower-growing breeds gives birds more time to develop and can improve their welfare. End the use of Frankenchickens

@IainDale Good news Iain

As the Labour Party Conference approaches, we urge the government to take action to advance animal welfare. More than two years after Labour took office, there has still been no Government Bill to advance animal welfare. The government’s promises have yet to be matched by legislation. Commitments must now become action. Actions speaker louder than words

NEW REPORT 💡

20 years after the Animal Welfare Act 2006 came into force, there remains a gap between the protections set out in law and what animals experience in practice.

It’s time to put animals back into the Animal Welfare Act.

Mandatory animal welfare labelling helps consumers make informed choices about how animals are reared. The success of egg labelling has shown that clear information can encourage shoppers to choose free-range eggs over those from caged hens. We call for mandatory animal welfare labelling

Our video shows Michelle Farnham in a pig farrowing crate cage for 3 weeks in Trafalgar Square, to support her campaign to bring public attention to the extremely narrow cages that 60% of sows suffer in, on UK intensive farms when giving birth and nursing their piglets for around 5 weeks. End pig farrowing crates

@CEN_HQ @samuelhall0 Thank you for all your work Sam and we wish you all the best for the future

Yesterday we met campaigner Michelle Farnham as she spends 21 days and nights inside a metal pig farrowing crate cage in Trafalgar Square, to bring public attention to the severe confinement endured by 60% of mother pigs on UK intensive farms. End pig farrowing crates:

Gestation crates in the US are one example of intensive farming practices that cause immense suffering to millions of animals. We must oppose legislative proposals that would weaken or reverse vital animal welfare protections

[NothingIsArt @NothingIsArt]

The worst day of my life would be the best day of these animals’ lives. Most humans have not even scratched the surface of suffering.

Factory farming depends on finance. To end practices such as breeding ‘Frankenchickens’, we must show companies and investors why poor animal welfare is also a financial risk.

Chris Packham joins a campaigner who is spending three weeks in a 43-inch-tall pig farrowing crate to raise awareness of the conditions mother pigs are kept in, while calling on the government to commit to ending factory farming by 2040.  End pig farrowing crate cages

More than two years after Labour took office, we are disappointed that there has still been no Government-led Bill to advance animal welfare.
Promises must now be matched by action. The Government should include animal welfare legislation alongside its wider legislative programme and other Bills before Parliament. Animals cannot afford further delay

[Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation @ConservativeAWF]

Some cows are permanently confined to industrial scale units and don’t have access to outdoors pastures in the UK. There is no current legal requirement for food labels to reveal how animals are reared or method of slaughter. We call for mandatory animal welfare labelling so consumers can make informed choices https://t.co/M9W6goHTVp
