@joeneville_ Network engineering for 20+ years and used calcs all the time outside of each iteration of CCNA renewals.
This one is great: https://t.co/ux4aJJtzcV
@joeneville_ I listened to a talk suggesting children should use calculators during maths at school. At first this seemed madness but this thinker explained that understanding maths early might be more beneficial than learning times tables. The research backed up the claims
@etherealmind Linked with your recent episode on Quantum Networks, this technology is being developed in the UK to detect the difference between an animal and a human trespassing on rail lines. The former instantly stops all trains.
@RichardduFeu Good luck. Over in York I'm learning about all kinds of devices I never new could be connected to a network. Mainly because they don't work and create a ticket.
I haven't yet worked out why you would want a wifi enabled lightbulb in a study room.
@tbourke@etherealmind I agree. Segmenting a subnet/vlan isn't microsegmentation. The phrase was invented to mean segmenting within traditional boundaries. Network microsegmentation is security of each host from all other hosts.
That said, its been done on controller based wifi for years. So not new
@andylapteff@ericchou This course is excellent because it is written by a school teacher and assumes no prior knowledge.

My top tip for learning python is to start early with a project, something you want to code. Learning is much easier when you do.
@etherealmind The inter personal skills gained at the office with colleagues assist when you need to engage with other organisations. If you only ever interact with a computer this might not be needed. If you buy/sell/collaborate externally then face-to-face has a benefit.
@ecbanks The second part of this is a topic that is repeated on network podcasts every few months and some how needs to be. Looking forward to the episode you hint at.
@ecbanks @todoist@WorkFlowy . Because it organises info and tasks in the same way my brain works.
Very hierarchical, simple, fast and allows focus at the right level.
@etherealmind As someone who was a SE for a major firewall vendor I observed every buyer knew, but the majority didn't know any detail on the finite resources. I was also asked 'what is max bandwidth' which is the wrong question.
@ecbanks It can be tough on relationships though so too can being stuck in a rut for years at home. I lived and learnt more in 18 months south than the decade before it. View from my old office window:
@ecbanks I worked for a major network vendor and quit to work in Antarctica for 18 months(fixed term contract). Different job, continent and temperature.71% pay cut
I feared cutting my bridges being away for so long.I walked back into the industry upon return.
Best career move ever
All the way through this outage that has bought down lots of major websites, https://t.co/HFKJt4vM1v has remained up and fast. Which CDN do they use for that?
