I’ve been dreading posting but. a few weeks ago Chuckles had a hospital scare, and after showing signs of normalcy, things got worse for him last Friday. Tian & I both traveled to NorCal so we could say goodbye - tomorrow is his last day & we’re gonna make the best of it.
Here is another funny one! Display light path contribution: as the light transport path extends from the camera, it factors in the scattering throughput of the surfaces it bounces off, which in turn filters the energy lights can contribute back through the path. The initial bundle of paths reflects off sharp mirrors and hits a small spot on a colored surface, most of what is gathered is filtered by that colorful texture; but as roughness increases we get both neutral direct specular illumination from the mirror and diffuse scattering through the rest of the scene: the sampled pixel in the mirror appears gray, so does the average path contribution.
Updating my Underwater Caustics shader, and with it will come with a prototype of one of the functionalities coming in Lights Plus soon 😉
This lets you control the distance of the start and end points of the lights influence, for stylized control!
Stay tuned for the update!! 🥰

@SebAaltonen I misremembered my numbers when I was trying to tell you about our phones but yeah it's the 740 for us too 😅 those model numbers just really dont stick for me!
Two-time Academy Award winner Ted Kim @_TheodoreKim Yale CompSci Prof, discusses his work in curly hair - which just won an award - at our Yale in Hollywood meetup at @SIGGRAPH in LA. He used to work at Pixar.

First day of expo hall is today! I'll be at the Oppo booth at noon and five! Come see hardware accelerated ray tracing, and path tracing with ReSTIR DI on mobile! 🤩

.@_cwyman_ and friends show how ReSTIR (or @nvidia RTXDI) can make single-sample path tracing practical, even for games like Cyberpunk 2077. 🤩 More details here: https://t.co/2JQzF7KFfk. #SIGGRAPH2023
Realistic secondary motion automatically breathes life into rig animations... but it's super slow to compute 🐌🐢😩
Our recent work, which will be presented at #SIGGRAPH2023, proposes a subspace based on linear blend skinning to accelerate simulation!
@SebAaltonen I've heard of tech artists who become graphics programmers in order to address the restrictions bounding their vision. I feel like I'm a high level graphics programmer who is trying to become a low level graphics programmer for the exact same reason 😂
Logging back onto this unrecognizable site to say that I'll be at #SIGGRAPH2023! Let's hang out and talk real time path tracing and integration with AI!
