In true, biblical, continuationism the Spirit isnt revealing new things about God, salvation, etc. He is revealing the hidden things in the lives of people & applying his truth to them — 1 Cor 14:25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.

My dad was sitting in his office in or April or May 2000 (if I remember well. Its a long time) when God spoke to his heart.

He heard "go and get your kids now or you won't see them again". He ran up and drove out of the shop in Ahmadu Bello Way.

You see, the radios and TVS had not yet caught up to the fact that bands of almajiri boys had been unleashed on the streets of Kaduna to kill Christians.

It was when he drove out to a point that he saw some areas like a war zone. He had to park somehere and trek through buildings and dirt roads. He got to the school where my siblings were and got them out.

Not long after they ran away, the bands of killers got to the school.

Ryan Denton says you guys are hyper-cessationists. But you guys call yourself cessationists.

Whatever it is, if you believe that God cannot minister to a person heart on things that apply to their individual lives and coher with personal sanctification and which God uses to lead us, you're wrong.

It's a doctrinal luxury for a society with relative economic and societal stability. It's not from God's word you got this.

It really isn't.

Yes, there are liars who elevate these impressions from God to the level of biblical inspiration and arrogate great authority to themselves. Yes, many are people's fantasies which cannot be confirmed.

But those are not proof that God doesn't speak to His people subjectively.

And you guys stand the chance of becoming pious deists. In this broken world of shadows of death, mountains of despair and crooked roads of confusion, if enough people believe this doctrine, we will have people who believe in Yahweh, the blind watch maker, who has wound the world to go in a certain way and we just walk into whatever path we find.

If God hadn't spoken to my dad, my siblings would all be dead in that religious persecution.

This thing is wrong. You guys should stop it. Steelman the Continuationist position and address it on its merit.

Philip’s daughters in scripture (Acts 21:9) had the gift of prophecy. Normal, er’day, unnamed folks who weren’t apostles, and weren’t preaching or proclaiming things that would become scripture….Yet, prophetic. That is exactly the gift of prophecy that has continued today.

Most Reformed folks hardly talk about the Holy Spirit, walking in the Spirit, prayer, fasting, demons, angels, soul winning...They think they'll be accused of being a charismatic.

So what!

Just point them to the reformers, puritans, covenanters, early fathers, Spurgeon, etc.

I affirm a regulative principle of worship (although I think serving in all the spiritual gifts should be a part) BUT a question — has a modern movement of “hyper-regulative” become part of certain church movements? Limiting instrumentation & even use of microphones and singers?

@lukegeraty I guess im wrestling a bit with a blend of both: I think we are given some distinctions of what should take place when we gather (sing, reading and preaching of scripture, prayer, sacraments, serving in spiritual gifts) but there’s also freedom to how we practice all that 💭 🤔

The Lord no longer gives revelation about himself & his salvation — THAT has been fulfilled in Christ & his scripture. BUT he does still give revelation as to the happenings of people’s lives and circumstances to show that he is a living God among us, powerful & present.
