CMAT on Olivia covering her song “When a Good Man Cries” via Substack!
“I simply cannot stop watching this video. As a songwriter it is pretty much your wildest dream for a brilliant pop star at the top of their game to interpret one of your songs, and that is exactly what happened. […] Thank you Olivia Rodrigo for making me feel like the prettiest songwriter at the school disco. I don’t know what I did to deserve anything but I have been firmly reminded of what my job is and am now off to write 1 million more weird songs.”
Olivia reflects back on her lyric “They all say it gets better, but what if I don’t” from ‘teenage dream’ on Dazed!
“Oh my God, things have got so much better. But I remember the fear that they wouldn’t. I was really young when SOUR came out, and I was labelled this ‘precocious kid’, and I felt if I lost that I wouldn’t be as impressive anymore. But I actually feel like I’m getting better at making music as I get older. I’m inspired by more complex things and have more references to draw on. So I think that fear has been quelled. I’m still quite young, though. I don’t have it all figured out.”

“I'm really obsessed with Charli XCX and I think she's an incredible songwriter, so it would be really cool to write with her.”
Olivia Rodrigo on artists and/or eras that inspired her upcoming album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’:
“I was listening to a lot of post-punk: The Cure, New Order, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees... Hopefully it translated. I wanted it to sound like how it feels to fall in love; string arrangements that are like your heart swelling, or the ups and downs of having a crush on someone.” (via Dazed)
taemin reassuring jinki that shinee world will wait for them hits harder now because finally tomorrow it's jinki's first stage in japan with shinee since 2018🥺
CMAT writes on her substack how Olivia Rodrigo’s cover came at a perfect time where she was struggling with online discourse:
‘imagine me waking up in my bed in a tshirt id worn for almost 4 days in a row (depression) and then hearing Olivia’s cover go out on radio 1’
Emma Corrin shares their excitement about Josh O’Connor presenting their Power of Women award: “We’ll always feel like family and be there for each other.”
“A little ‘Crown’ reunion. Charles and Diana back together!”

Sorry, she still ripped Lana off. If Olivia SHOUTING on a song means Taylor gets paid, Lana deserves some splits when Taylor copies her vocal style, melodic phrasing, and trademark production. She’s even shouted Lana out as an inspo before. Lana deserves that $ for being copied.
