Just in case you have already asked yourself if a Canon RP is able to run Doom... The answer is yes, it can.

Finally I have desoldered the broken tube and replaced it with a new one I've got from ebay and now it works again. New tube did cost me 5,40€ so this is how you can get a Speedlite for ~14€, if you have some basic soldering skills :).

Just got a defective Speedlite 430-EX II flash on Ebay for 8,50€. It basically works but the flash doesn't flash. If I am lucky it works again if I replace the xenon tube.

... so lets get closer. And yes, the broken glass and the burning mark on the bottom side tell me that this tube is gone. I'll order a new tube and try repair it. When it arrives the cap should be discharged and I can dig deeper.

@rafaelcamera Thanks for your offer but unfortunately this is not possible currently. However, Magic Lantern project is looking for ways to accept donations. As soon as something suitable has been found there will be an announcement on when and how people can support the project financially.

Now where a minimal version of Magic Lantern runs on EOS RP, it's time for some experiments. Models like R, R6 or R5 allow closing the shutter when the camera is turned off. Unfortunately this is not available on RP but thanks to Magic Lantern it will be possible in future. :)

@lorenzo2472 No, already checked that. I wasn't able to find any reasonable pattern and RP is the only camera where the value is off like that. That's why I a assume that Canon just forgot to initialize the counter to 0. When taking a photo, the value is increased by one in little endian.

Canon cameras have an internal counter on how many times the shutter was actuated. It's like the odometer on a car. Turns out RP firmware has a bug which leads into a super huge number here. It seems to be a static offset value of 1086947309 so I have taken 2107 photos until now.

Today I have managed to get a basic port of Magic Lantern running on a EOS RP! Thanks to @_kitor for helping me with some crash analysis! We only have menus for now and no feature works yet but it proofs that Magic Lantern is definitely possible on this camera.

A while ago the foot door opening mechanics of my trashcan broke, so I had to open it by hand. Yesterday I have decided to design and 3D print a simple replacement joint. To my surprise it already works perfectly. 3D printers are awsome!
