First day of #schoolclosureuk (I’m not in for key worker kids until later this week) so I trialed out making @YouTube vids for the #homeschooling#homelearning I’ve set. Today’s can all be found:

Had quite an exciting Sunday afternoon exploring @googledocs and #GoogleClassroom with the mrs playing around with how it can work with new #homelearning guidelines
It’s straightforward and when you add an interactive drawing pad into the mix things get exciting...

Monitor-Talk-Report🗨️⚠️ In light of recent distressing content circulating on several popular social media platforms, this #WakeUpWednesday we're reminding parents how important it is to monitor, support and talk to children about their online activities > https://t.co/vdjSflgCsS
You are you as a teacher. The times I’ve seen lessons go the most wrong is when people try to be a teacher they’re not. Not everyone has to sing, dance, tell jokes or be wacky. Children are canny things and they’ll appreciate the real you more than a fake one.
So after months of home learning, I recorded my final videos on Monday. Today, a child came up to me in my bubble and said
“I love your videos, I’m on episode 3”
1. He’s not in my class so doesn’t need the videos
2. I now feel famous and have a ‘series’ 😂😂

The DfE guidance is as expected.
The fact that schools will not be reimbursed for extra costs to keep schools clean and safe is frankly appalling.
Stretched budgets stretched even more.
There isn’t a school I know that hasn’t incurred extra costs during this crisis.
There’s also a lot of parents now working from home doing more and more on their own devices. Many families simply haven’t got or can afford to have more devices
We’ve found that children coming back into school have just wanted to get on with it.
They have just been desperate to just get back to routines and learning. It’s amazing how quickly they’ve settled back into patterns.
Children will internalise the expectations adults hold of them.
If we keep telling them they are behind or are somehow damaged, we won’t be helping them.
Believe in them and tell them it will be ok please.
Every school is now three institutions in one. A traditional school. An online school. A community hub contributing to welfare. That’s a lot of work. Being done extremely well and with great agility.
