Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora have provided the following update on the Pope’s postoperative recovery:
This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed.
The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch.
His recovery is proceeding as expected.
Pope Leo XIV underwent thoracic surgery at Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, as planned, according to a statement from Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora released by the Holy See Press Office.
The surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung, and tissue examined during the operation confirmed the diagnosis of “lung adenocarcinoma,” as suspected from tests conducted beforehand.
The Pope was in the operating room approximately three hours, while the operation itself lasted about 90 minutes. The doctors said it was successful and there were no complications.
Pope Leo awoke normally after surgery and, following a brief period of observation, returned to his room on the hospital’s 10th floor, according to the statement.

🚨WOW!!!
Students at a Georgia High School pranked their principal by staging a "fake fight" at school and calling the Principal to break it up...
...as he rushes in to pull the students apart, they all started singing him Happy Birthday
He's so revealed and happy.
Imagine being alive to witness your childhood friend become a saint. 🥹❤️ What a beautiful and surreal experience that must be!
This video shows us little glimpses of St. Carlo Acutis’ life with his friends: the pictures, the laughter, the ordinary moments, and the beautiful memories they shared.
I can only imagine what it must feel like to look through those old pictures and videos and realise that the boy you played with, laughed with, and shared ordinary childhood moments with is now a saint recognised by the Church. 🥹❤️ Imagine being able to say, “I knew him. We were friends. I have memories with a saint!” 😭❤️
And perhaps that is one of the most beautiful things about St. Carlo’s story. He reminds us that holiness is not reserved for people who lived centuries ago or those who did extraordinary things in the eyes of the world. Sometimes, saints are the very people we walk beside, laugh with, and share our everyday lives with.
St. Carlo reminds us that we, too, can become saints. We do not have to wait until we are older or do something extraordinary to love God deeply. We can begin right where we are, with the little things we do every day, offering them all to God with love. ❤️
I am deeply inspired by St. Carlo Acutis. May his life remind us that we were all created for heaven, and holiness is possible even in the ordinary moments of our lives.
Who knows? The people we laugh with and share our lives with today may one day inspire generations to come through their holiness. And may we, too, live lives that point others to Christ. 🥹🙏❤️
St. Carlo Acutis, pray for us! 🙏✨
