Not a good time to be in the physical product business.
As if things weren't challenging enough for us small businesses to stay afloat, these tariffs are going to put so many businesses under.
Even though we currently manufacture in the US and our (very high) costs are going to go up even more.
I don't think people realize that consumers are going to pay for this.
Maybe I should start a software business.
@FullHarbor Played on high school team, then stopped for 20 years. TopGolf reignited my love a couple years ago and I have been trying to get out on the course to play more recently. Only played about 3 rounds in 3 years, but more to come hopefully! 🤞
@friedpixels@weareMK12 I just remember having to think, is this pixel aspect ratio 0.9, or do I design with square pixels at 720x540, or do I scale it up to squash/stretch the graphics to look right… 🤦square pixels ftw!
@aembury And here I thought you basically retired from animation to do home renovations and carpentry a couple years ago. I’ve been paying less attention to “socials” lately, but glad to see you’ve been killing it as always. 💪
@aembury I’m sorry, you WHAT now?!? Must have missed the memo that you were working on that film! Sucks to go uncredited for the work though. Maybe I would have known! 😉
@Oddernod@990adjustments I also don’t think _we_ are his audience for these videos. He made a great post about why he intentionally chooses simple language (e.g., “fix”) and how he’s talking to layman. Obviously they aren’t tutorials, or the whole picture, but Alan knows that. He’s a good designer…🤷
People who are ripping up Allan today need to go outside and touch grass.
He's an insanely talented designer who understands the game. What he's built is a fun and engaging content play that attracts clients to hire him for his services, where he has to deal with all of the aforementioned pressures of being a designer.
It's a smart top-of-funnel strategy and actually shows his ability to think quickly and generate ideas. It's clearly working, he has tons of high-level clients like Target and Star Wars. I'd bet he has a hit-list of clients he WANTS to work for and uses this as a form of outreach.
What if instead of complaining, you created?
@Arcane_Motion@JCTecklenburg For sure! Also the amount of highly technical stuff I was taught that I didn’t understand until years later and then eventually have forgotten is astounding. Still not 100% sure I FULLY understand continually rasterize vs. collapse transformation, render order, etc.
@kevinbparry@NotionHQ Yeah, it CAN be anything you make of it. But that’s the trap. Get too complicated too soon and you won’t use it or understand any of it.
@kevinbparry@NotionHQ But I also have a Personal workspace that has simpler pages like Travel, Freelance projects and invoices, to-do lists, housework, etc.
@kevinbparry@NotionHQ I work for a college and so I have my roles at the college set as areas (committees, department, classes, etc). Each of those Areas have Projects associated with them and Resources assigned (colleagues, etc). I also have a Tasks database to link to Projects.
