Just spent an hour renegotiating comp with a client
Chill guys, but got lowballed like a mf
After explaining why I can't accept that low of an offer, one guy on the call said:
"If I were in your shoes, I'd jump at this opportunity"
Bruv
You have no concept of what it's like to be in my shoes
You've been climbing the corporate ladder for 15 years and have ZERO entrepreneurial experience
So yes, I bet you would take that opportunity
Not even trying to be a dick about it, but it's like comparing apples to oranges
Working to the bone for less than what your time is worth is the 9-5 mentality
I know because I used to do it
Once you build something for yourself and realize how valuable your time actually is, you can start calling shots with confidence
My top 5 revenue-driving emails in the last 30 days for one client:
1) Text-only ($12.1k, 30 words)
2) Text-only ($5.5k, 111 words)
3) Text-only ($3.1k, 160 words)
4) Text-only ($2.9k, 130 words)
5) Designed ($2.6k)
Text-only emails are king
I said the same thing a few days ago
If you aren't consistently using text-only emails for your brand, you're leaving money on the table
For this particular client, I only send ~12 campaigns per month, and 4 of them are plain text
The numbers speak for themselves
They are the perfect pattern interrupt against the status quo of heavily designed emails
Not to mention they take half the time to produce
But there's a catch...
You can't be a shit copywriter
(aka let Claude one-shot it)
If you leave it to AI, you'll get mediocre results and think to yourself:
"Text-only emails suck"
I promise you, they don't
Hire a skilled copywriter, use plain-text sparingly, and the results will follow
Former dropshippers turned DTC brand owners make for the perfect clients
They are dialed in on ads, always have an open mind, are willing to pay for good work, and are CHILL dudes
They feel more like friends than clients
On the flip side, corporate-style ecom brands are often stuck in their ways, less open to new ideas, and they pinch pennies
Ex dropshippers take the W
I need to stop talking about my work to 9-5ers
After explaining what I do, I get one of 4 responses:
1) They tell me it's not going to last long
2) They tell me their 9-5 is basically the same
3) They tell me I'm working too much and not living life
4) They tell me AI basically does all the work and it takes no skill
Most are just straight up haters, and that's exactly why their future will likely consist of a cubicle, a headset, a 30 minute unpaid lunch, and a boss bitching at them all day
Haters gonna hate
Cheat code: plain-text emails for DTC brands
All semi-decent email marketers already know that, but I'm chiming in for anyone who's not convinced
Just sent one out last week for one of my clients:
30 words long
1 hyperlink to the PDP
Signature from the founder
That's it
It's now their highest-revenue email of all time (by over 2x)
Not saying that designed emails should be replaced
But they should 100% be a part of your email strategy
