@seanmdav Tennessee and its governor effed this up. It’s no more complicated. Was there sabotage? Maybe. TN governor should have been on top of this with an execution team beyond reproach. New chemicals should have been obtained to avoid sabotage. This is now a hot mess.
@seanmdav Man are you “influencers” not getting it. A lot of things are going to come out of this, and it’s not “firing squads” or another execution attempt at this monster. We’ll see more moratoriums on the D.P. This monster will now be alive for years.
@seanmdav as new litigation starts all over. She’ll argue for release now and no third chance by the state. It’s an open question in TN. It’ll go through the state court system then the federal system. 5-10 years of more litigation.
@MattWalshBlog@GovBillLee It looks like it’s an open question under Tennessee law. Under federal law, the government does get another chance. Unless she dies, nothing is going to happen for years. Governor Bill Lee fucked this up. This was super high profile. Sloppy.
@MattWalshBlog Now what? Her sentence was death. State tried & failed - twice. I don’t know the law on this. They get a 3rd try? I doubt it. So, life in prison? That’s not her sentence. They’re going to argue for full release. @GovBillLee - you effed this up.
@KurtSchlichter I say the governor fucked this up because this was super high profile. The world was watching. This was ripe for sabotage. The governor should have made absolutely certain that the entire team in place was above reproach. The chemicals should have been replaced with new.
@KurtSchlichter Some quick research reveals that this is an open question under Tennessee law. Under federal law, the government does get another chance and that is not illegal. But what happens under Tennessee law? We won’t know for years. The governor of Tennessee fucked this up.
@KurtSchlichter Now what? I don’t know the law on this. Sentence was death. State tried-twice & failed. Life sentence now? But that’s not her sentence. Def will argue for full release. We can’t trust Republicans to do anything right.
@KurtSchlichter If there was a law making ppl under 21 ineligible for the death penalty, and she was 21 when she committed this horrific murder, they would be saying she was “barely old enough to drink alcohol”….
