If their vaccine is a success, and once she has been vaccinated herself, Schuitemaker plans to go for a two-week hike and mountain-climbing expedition to the Alps. After that, she plans to refocus on the HIV vaccine program that they have been working on. 13/n

Sarah Gilbert was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2021 Birthday Honours for services to science and public health in COVID - 19 vaccine development. She also received a standing ovation at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

In today’s Picture A Scientist post, let us talk about Sarah Gilbert - co-founder of Vaccitech, and Professor of Vaccinology at Oxford. She is a British vaccinologist who conducted research for developing the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine against coronavirus. 1/n

On 30th Dec, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was approved for use in UK. Earlier this year, she said- "From the beginning, we're seeing it as a race against the virus, not a race against other vaccine developers. We're a university, and we're not in this to make money." 10/n
