I still can’t believe my colleague and friend Hamza Al Dahdouh has been killed. Hamza is the eldest son of @WaelDahdouh - who we all regard as our father and the father of journalism. Israel killed Hamza today alongside another colleague of ours Mustafa Thuraya.
Hamza lost his mother, brother, sister and nephew in an Israeli air strike in October. Hamza was devastated but continued to report and work despite everything. Few weeks ago Israel targeted his father and killed Aljazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daqqa. Hamza was worried sick about his father and we used to keep checking on each other and our families. Hamza was a close friend of my best friend Ibrahim and whenever he saw me getting exhausted in this genocide he’d send me encouraging messages to keep going despite everything he’s going through. Palestine cries today with our father Wael. All of Palestine is crying this loss, Hamza was the backbone of his father and his everything. Hamza was a beautiful human before being a journalist. I can’t believe that we were chatting only few days ago.. I can’t believe that he’s gone… I can’t imagine the pain his father and his siblings are feeling. In the last few weeks Hamza would tell me how worried he is about his father, how heartbroken he is to see him suffer like this, how much pain he feels that his father had been injured and in need of an urgent operation.. we would talk and pray.. never did I imagine that we’d lose you this soon.
