On the last day of her Paris visit, Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary (Textiles) visited WHO’S NEXT Paris and inaugurated the Indian Exhibition, showcasing the strength and diversity of India’s fashion, handloom, handicraft and lifestyle ecosystem.
She held discussions with Mr Frédéric Maus, CEO, WSN, Ms Sandrine Meziane, Director – International Development & Promotion, and Ms Sylvie Pourrat, Director – Business Development on strengthening India’s participation and market access in Europe.
With 94 Indian exhibitors participating, the engagement focused on stronger India visibility, curated buyer–exhibitor matchmaking, sustainable fashion and a long-term India–WSN partnership to expand international business opportunities for Indian brands and exporters.

The visit showcased advanced work in biomechanics, body morphology, movement sciences, thermal comfort and product testing, demonstrating how research and technology can translate into better-performing, safer and more comfortable products.
India, already an important market and sourcing partner for Decathlon, offers significant opportunities for the next phase of collaboration. Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, visited ENSAIT, Roubaix, one of France’s leading institutions for textile engineering and innovation.
The visit highlighted significant opportunities for deeper India–France collaboration in technical textiles, smart materials, sustainable manufacturing, circularity and advanced textile research. Discussions also focused on strengthening the existing academic partnership between ENSAIT and NIFT, and expanding research, student and faculty exchanges.
Secretary also visited GEMTEX, ENSAIT’s advanced textile research laboratory, and underlined the potential for collaboration between French research excellence and India’s expanding textile innovation ecosystem, including NIFT, IITs and Textile Research Associations.
Together, India and France can build future-ready, sustainable and technology-driven textile value chains through stronger research, innovation and industry partnerships.
