Itโs my Googleversary! Itโs been 1 year since I moved to Atlanta, changed careers, & began my official journey as a working developer. So proud of how far Iโve come! ๐โค๏ธ๐๐
Iโve been a bit ducked off because had a final interview on Wednesday, & Iโve been crying for the past 2 days just trying to make sense of this whole engineering journey. & tbh, itโs time for me to give up.
@LawrenceDCodes Iโm just wondering how long am I supposed to grind? I havenโt had stability in almost 3 years. Iโm finally feeling over imposter syndrome & still working to show up perfect while the process is falling flat. Emotionally I just need a break from it all. I cant execute ANOTHER plan
I say all this to say, itโs time for me to take a break tech. It would feel great to not have a plan right now. To visit my favorite coffee shop. Take a walk on the Beltline. Take my dog to a park. Commit to my skincare routine. Clean up my space. I wish you all well ๐ฉท
@DThompsonDev Thanks for the thoughts. To be clear, this wasnโt a preparation issue. Iโve been growing as an Android dev for almost 2 years, starting at Google, & landing interviews in the process. As a former educator of 9 years organization and confident communication arent struggles.
@DThompsonDev It wasnโt about lack of prep or self-awareness. I know I can do that job, and I know I wouldโve aced that interview had it gone as expected. I neglected self-care just to show up pristine. Iโve been grinding nonstop for years. so Iโm taking time to take care of myself and my dog.
@DThompsonDev I prepped for this interview for 1.5 weeks straight, reviewed 100+ qs, and built a project I could articulate line by line. The problem was that the interview format didnโt match the invite so I had to scramble mid-interview. I wasnโt able to fully tap in to everything I can do.
Iโve been DoorDashing since the end of my Google apprenticeship in May so I can keep the lights on & buy food. AND kept practicing. Kept applying. Kept networking. Kept building. Kept learning. All to put myself on the back burner. I am not myself anymore.
I re-wrote every line of code 20 times, so I could do it by heart. I googled things I didnโt understand & kept asking questions until it all made sense. I did all this at the sacrifice of sleep. Of my dogโs needs. And of my own, just to be thrown a curveball. Iโm so sad.
Since the 4th of July I poured my heart, soul, time, energy, & everything I had into a document I made of over 100 Android development-related questions. I studied every SINGLE one, & made sure I could explain every piece of architecture.
@teneikaask_you This is a bit alarming because as Iโve been looking into grad school obviously GT is one of the most rigrourous, & former students even suggest taking part time classes while working full time. I donโt believe they finished that program in 2 years while working lol
