Review of Cramele Recas, Incanta Pinot Noir. £7.50 for a very decent Pinot Noir? That's not to be sniffed at.... well, it is, and sipped :) https://t.co/L69rSYjv4v
@wblakegray Producers in Europe are already struggling with volatile weather, consistent high cost increases and economic slowdown in europe. Makes it virtually impossible to help our US imoorters who are asking us to pay the tariff. I just said flat no- its not our fault!
@WSTA_Miles@AndrewCarter21@RachelReevesMP@SteveReedMP@hmtreasury Many just assume glass is better, but we have studied it a lot and its not. Pet is clearly not good if you chuck it in the sea but if properly recycled its way better. Frankly climate change is wiping out our industry +all agriculture/food faster than microplastics will kill us
@WSTA_Miles@AndrewCarter21@RachelReevesMP@SteveReedMP@hmtreasury Even if they make glass production better its still 10 times heavier so 10 times more emissions during its lifetime movments. All wine trucks w glass are travelling 1/3 empty due to weight limits 20000 btls glass v 31000 pet, plus all the extra packaging - carton etc
@WSTA_Miles@AndrewCarter21@RachelReevesMP@SteveReedMP@hmtreasury Glass is wines biggest enviromental problem producing over 50% of our co2 emissions which are screwing up the climate and causing an existential crisis for our industry in many regions. So we can't just keep ignoring that
@FelicityCarter@MonikaMarieNYC On wine the Eu charges around 9 cent a bottle for US wines entering Europe. But I would imagine that will rise soon if the US indeed does what it says it intends to do with tariffs on Eu wines.
@WSTA_Miles@AndrewCarter21@RachelReevesMP@SteveReedMP@hmtreasury I am sure its a badly thought out policy as usual, but the bit about encouraging plastic vs glass is not wrong. Glass is hugely more of an environmental problem than plastic and wine industry just ignores that its our biggest problem re climate change
Whatever happened to those bargain basement wines from Eastern Europe? You know the ones. The soft and fruity Romanian pinot noir that we used to buy for £3.29 a bottle in the student shop..
