The fragmentation problem with free streaming is the same problem that plagues paid streaming your content is scattered across multiple apps. Tubi for on-demand movies. Pluto TV for live channels. Fire TV Channels for Amazon's free linear content. Prime Video's "Watch for Free" section for Amazon's ad-supported catalog. Each app has its own interface, its own search, its own recommendations.

She installed Plex a free app that aggregates free movies, free TV shows, and free live TV channels from multiple sources into a single clean interface. One search. One watchlist. One recommendation engine. Instead of opening 4 free apps separately, her father could open Plex and browse everything in one place.

Plex also has a feature most free streaming apps don't a universal search that spans across services. Search for a movie and Plex tells you which free service has it, whether it's on Tubi, Pluto, or its own library. No more opening 3 apps to find one film.

She set Plex as the first app on the Fire TV home row. One click from the home screen. Every free movie, show, and live channel accessible from a single interface. Her father stopped thinking of his entertainment as "apps" and started thinking of it as "television" which is what he wanted all along.
