Recent Twitter discourse reminds me of one of my favorite Buddhist terms: mudita; meaning sympathetic joy.

Practicing mudita allows you to feel pleasure at the accomplishment and happiness of others, which is very useful for maintaining energy and building relationships.

The other day, I had to explain to someone that a lot of people, diabetics especially, have what can easily be considered "medical emergencies" all the time, but it's weirdly casual once you're used to it. Ya just try not to die real quick and then get back to work or whatever.
