The ‘Hate Speech Bill’ is being used as a Trojan Horse to displace the binary of male and female, when referring to sex/gender in a legal context, with a spectrum of identities and expressions. We should be in no doubt that opposition to this novelty is seen by some as hatred, and with the passing of the Bill there will be attempts to silence dissent. That is the goal of some of those activist groups which our government terms as ‘stakeholders’.

What this could mean for schools and universities?

Under the Universities Act 1997, ‘a member of the academic staff of a university shall have the freedom, within the law, in his or her teaching, research and any other activities either in or outside the university, to question and test received wisdom, to put forward new ideas and to state controversial or unpopular opinions and shall not be disadvantaged, or subject to less favourable treatment by the university, for the exercise of that freedom.’

If the ‘Hate Speech Bill’ passes, will that phrase ‘within the law’ be used to justify sanctions against those who challenge the replacement of the gender binary with a gender spectrum in our law and legislation?

Certainly in schools, the balance will switch. Teachers will be empowered to teach ‘genderbread’ nonsense as if it were a scientific reality, and concerned parents may be designated as ‘haters’.
